Neurodiversity and Disability Affirming IEP Template

Who Benefits from this Six-Page IEP And Legal-Informational Document:

  1. parents/guardians/clients: parents/guardians will benefit from neurodiversity approaches and disability affirming approaches to the IEP process for services provided through the legal document.

  2. SLP's and other Professionals: Rather than simply focusing on standardized testing scores and assessments this approach focuses as well on qualitative descriptions of strengths. It also helps urge the writer and assessor to focus not only on weaknesses but also skills and strengths that can be harnessed in goals and report writing. Further, the document urges clinicians to identify if assessment provided and scored are invalid or valid based on disability and neurodiversity affirming and cultural/linguistic and dialectical differences. If there is testing bias that makes tests invalid the document provides support to the writer on ways to write/examples on how to explain why scores will not be reported and more examples of qualitative examples.
